Cancer New Moon: What Roots Lie Beneath Your Inner Temple?

PEAKS: 14th July 2026, 10.44 (uk)

This lunation is in its home sign, at ease in its most natural expression. That means it is operating at full strength, giving us the ability to manifest more clearly.

Cancers remit is the mother, the family, the inner child, the ancestral roots. It is the rooms you keep coming home to, whether literally or through memory when those waves of nostalgia hit. It’s our emotional landscape, it’s our intuition. This is the Moon, in all her feels.

Your emotional truth is at the forefront, and will be setting the tone for any intentions you choose to set. So unsurprisingly, this lunation wants us to get quiet and go inward. To enter your inner temple and take sanctuary there. Spend some time tending to your waters and nourishing your soul.

Close your eyes and shut down the external world.
Listen. Feel.

Where is home, and what does it mean to you? Where do you feel like you belong? Where do you feel safe? Where do you most feel that sense of unconditional love? Where do you feel the need to protect, or want to be protected?

Fine tune your senses to your emotional body to receive. Enter the void space. Powerful new beginnings start in the dark. Unfortunately, we’ve had Mercury throwing a spanner at your inner temple since the end of June (with pre-shadow starting midway through that month). This retrograde is important to this lunation as both are in Cancer, and they are just a couple of degrees from one another.

Mercury, the planet of communication and thought, has been inviting us to reflect on the threads of emotions that are present in all that we say and think. Follow the tide on which they weave, through your inner waters, and reconnect with the emotional root from where how you speak, to self and others, initiates.

Have you found yourself remembering, revisiting, reminiscing? Memories of the past rising to the surface, so can we trace the thread back to the dynamics and conversations that have shaped the way we think, listen and speak. Some roots may need tending to, some to be severed, and some left as they are - look backwards to go forwards.

Fortunately, we are offered a reprieve the day before the New Moon, with the Mercury Cazimi. This will shine a light onto your emotions in a way that sparks clarity. A cazimi offers us a pause in the backwards momentum of a retrograde, pay attention on this day to any lightbulb moments and realisations that dawn on you - as these will be useful to guide the intentions that you set.

This is a new beginning and emotional reset, connected to something, someone or somewhere from your past. By revisiting the past, you have the opportunity here to let it go. Water holds memory, and if we soften into it, we can liberate ourselves from the hold it has on us.

As you set your intentions, remember that this is not a New Moon asking you to become someone new. It is asking you to return to who you have always been beneath it all. Choose intentions that feel like home. Ones that offer safety, nourishment and truths from the heart.

Plant them gently and trust the tide, they will be unfolding between now and the Cancer Full Moon in December. The Moon knows that growth does not happen all at once. It begins quietly, beneath the surface, long before the first signs appear above the soil.
